Coleton narrowly misses runner-up finish by inches
July 18th, 2010 - Morrison, Colorado

Coleton took another step closer to getting back to the top step on the podium July 18th at Action Karting in Morrison, Colorado.  Action Karting is a track that Coleton struggled on in his first start in April.  Spinning twice before setting the second fastest lap of the event in Race #1, Coleton vowed to do better on his next visit to the facility.  True to his word, Coleton came out of the trailer very quick and had the second fastest speed in the morning practice.  Coleton followed that up with a 4th place qualifying effort just a few tenths of a second off the top spot in the very competitive Jr 2 field.

In the heat race, Coleton shot up to second place on the start, only to give up two positions while negotiating lapped traffic.  Coleton would throw a chain with just two laps to go in the heat race which put him at the back of the grid for final event.

The main event saw Coleton go from last to 4th on the track in two laps.  Staying focused, Coleton began to pull in the 2nd and 3rd place karts.  Visibly faster, Coleton draw up to the back bumper of the 3rd place kart as they began the final lap.  On the final corner, the 2nd place kart unexpectedly pulled into the pits.  Always the opportunist, Coleton drew up beside the now 2nd place kart and missed gaining the position by just under 2 inches.

It was a good finish for Coleton as he finally managed to keep the kart under for the entire race without spinning.  Next up will be the very smooth and fast Grand Junction Motor Speedway where Coleton won last year and took the pole position for the TAG USA World Finals.
